Skincare Q & A

What is mesotherapy?

Frenchman Dr. Michel Pistor created mesotherapy in the1950s. Its first intention was to relieve pain by delivering a variety of healing compounds through small injections. The injections are composed of a combination of any of the following:

  • Vitamins and minerals
  • Enzymes, including hyaluronidase and collagenase
  • Prescription medicines, such as antibiotics
  • Hormones, including thyroxine and calcitonin
  • Herbal extracts

Mesotherapy helps resolve underlying issues that age you prematurely. Inflammation, chemical imbalances, and poor circulation are addressed with the treatment.

What types of conditions does mesotherapy address?

Mesotherapy is critical for healthy-looking skin, though the procedure can also stimulate weight loss. Dr. Foucauld may suggest mesotherapy to help you:

  • Contour your body
  • Reduce the appearance of cellulite
  • Minimize the look of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Remove fat from stubborn areas (including the upper and lower abs, saddlebags of the thighs, double chin and jawline, back fat, flanks, and arms)

No standard formula for mesotherapy exists. Dr. Foucauld uses her expertise to customize the contents of the injections to your needs. Each mesotherapy treatment is customized for your health needs and skin care goals.

What happens during a mesotherapy session?

Mesotherapy consists of injections performed at a series of appointments. Anywhere from 3-15 sessions are usually scheduled, and the doctor spaces them about ten days apart. Dr. Foucauld uses one of several specialized, short needles. These needles penetrate at a variety of levels, depending on your treatment plan.

Although the injections go between one and four millimeters into your skin, the treatment is considered noninvasive. You don’t need to schedule downtime following mesotherapy; you can go back to your regular routine after appointments.

As you start to experience results, the injection schedule slows down, and you get them just once every two to four weeks.

Why should I consider mesotherapy?

If you want to rejuvenate your appearance, slim your body, and tighten your skin, mesotherapy is a good option. The procedure doesn’t require the invasiveness of surgery, stitches, or downtime, either. You may have slight swelling or bruising at the injection sites, but side effects are minimal, and the therapy is effective.
